Historically, the ASG was better described as a "dependency graph", containing only identifiers (which are simply called "symbols" in the XSLT-based compiler). Consequently, it was appropriate for the graph to have operations specific to identifiers. (Indeed, that's the only type of object the graph supported.) Much has changed since then. This cleans things up, and makes parenting identifiers to root an _explicit_ operation. This will make it easier to move forward with handling of scope, and importing identifiers into packages, and removing `Source`, and so on. DEV-13162 |
